Last Friday, 9 ordinary people entered a house where they were to become isolated from the rest of the world. No televisions, no radios, no phones, no newspapers. Surrounded by cameras recording their every move they will live out the next few days surviving only on the food, drink and luxury items they carried in with them. If you were glued to C4 like 8 million other people you may be thinking I've miscounted somewhere. If you've checked out cath lately you may have worked out that I'm referring to a trip to Scotland. No doubt mandy and owen will be mentioning it at some point in the near future. Four out of nine bloggers on one trip seems like a good ratio to me - maybe next year we'll have converted another one or two. If we can make it three converts we could be getting into dodgy anorak joke territory :-)

We've had a fantastic holiday. Great food, great company, superb varied scenery and lovely weather. On the way we've learnt a few new things - don't drive landrovers onto pebbly beaches being one that springs to mind (trust me - it will make sense when we get the photos up!). It was heavenly to just get completely away from it all - I feel so relaxed now.

Off to play with the photo gallery stuff - the race is on to get all the photos up while I can still remember what they're of. I'll let the pictures tell most of the story to avoid going off on a long ramble. Watch this space ....

There's a nasty cold / flu type bug doing the rounds in London at the moment, and I really don't feel very well at all. I came home from work Thursday morning and have been cabbage-like ever since. I haven't slept this much since the last time I was really ill (and thankfully I can't really remember when that was, so it must have been quite a while ago :-).

On the positive side, we've now got the TV hooked up to the stereo resulting in lovely surround sound. All the CD's and videos that have been sitting around in boxes for the last year. Couple that with being ill, and you've got a rare opportunity to sit around watching movies all day. We've watched Cider House Rules, Harvey, LA Confidential, Fargo and the World According to Garp all in two days! It was the first time I'd seen any of them (I'm a tad behind on movie watching like everything else) and I really enjoyed them all. Of them all,
Harvey was by far the best. I think it's probably up there in my top 5 - if you haven't seen it you should. It's rare to come across a film which is both incredibly moving and yet side-splittingly funny.

We've not really been buying DVDs and CDs over the last year due to not having anywhere to put anything. As our good friends at cd-wow are having a 6.99 CD sale we've ordered a selection of goodies like X-Men (so I can see it again before we go see the new one) and Spiderman. That should put the old dolby through it's paces :-)

Oh dear, my cup of tea's all gone. Off to do some chores ....

Where does all the time go? I can't believe that's it's nearly 2 weeks since I last made time to post. I haven't read my blogroll since Easter, so sorry if I've missed anything important!

I've been meaning to jot down a few words about what I did on my birthday, but it all seems too long ago now :-) For the record we had a lovely day in the Tate Modern, before visiting a few shops (mostly of the comic and animation art variety) before going for dinner with a few pals at the ever-superb Savoir Faire (on New Oxford Street - I can't recommend it enough to the Londoners amongst you). We rounded off the evening with cocktails with some more friends. It was a lovely day.

Amazingly I woke up at 8 the following morning, tidied the house and then ripped a carpet out before going out to lunch with my family! I so deserved a hangover - I've no idea how I managed to get away with it :-)

Since then, we've finished painting the outside of the house (give or take a bit of cleaning up and re-sealing of windows), and managed to get the carpet laid. The new carpet proved to be a complete nightmare as they messed up measuring the room and the one that arrived was too small. This was quite a feat of stupidity as the room is basically square and not all that hard to measure from one side to the other! Many phone calls, hundreds of swear words and 7 days late we do now have a carpet.

For the sake of our sanity, we've decided to take it easy for the next couple of weeks. We've started to put together the new furniture and then we get to unpack the stereo and get the TV system set up properly. Then we get to start unpacking some of the boxes we've been saving up until we had places to put things. I think some time on the sofa watching movies is well overdue :-)

We should even have a bit more time for blogging again. Watch this space ...
